Assessment
Assessing progress is an essential aspect of daily life at Mont a l’Abbé. Best outcomes possible for all our learners.
At Mont a L’Abbe we understand the importance of tailoring our assessment tools to each individual child and their targets. As a school we use the Equals Curriculum assessment tools, a set of tools used across the UK in Special Education schools. These tools may look different depending on which of our school’s pathways the learner is accessing. Our Phase one (diagnostic pathway) learners are assessed using the Small Steps curriculum, with a focus on early development and sensory integration. Our Equals curriculum continues all the way through to our Post 14 provision which follows the Equals ‘Moving On’ curriculum and assessment which supports our learners to build the skills needed to be as independent as possible, in their preparation for adulthood beyond Mont a L’Abbe.
Tracking and Evidencing Progress
To ensure that all children make progress with targets set out in their Record of Needs (RON) individual smart targets are set using the Autism Education Trust Framework. This supports our staff with streamlining targets half-termly to promote progress that can be tracked and evidenced. These targets are selected to ensure coverage of the four different learning areas of the RON:
- Cognition and Learning
- Communication and Interaction
- Physical, Sensory and Medical
- Social, Emotional and Mental
