Jersey Premium is a targeted funding programme which aims to make sure all children get the best from their education.
Some children don’t go on to achieve at the levels that would normally be expected for their ability. The introduction of Jersey Premium has enabled schools to review their approach to teaching and learning, ensuring that all pupils are able to achieve their very best.
Schools and colleges receive extra funding calculated on the number of eligible children they have each year. The school or college decides how they use the funding to improve the child’s educational experience and outcomes. Jersey Premium is available for pupils throughout their education in a Government of Jersey school or college.
The use of our Jersey Premium funding at Mont a L’Abbe school is to help our disadvantaged learners, whom all have SEND, reach their full potential and to lead happy and fulfilled lives.
Our ultimate objectives are:
- To provide the most relevant and individualized opportunities for our learners to fully engage with the world around them.
- For our learners to be fully visible and present in their community, with their choices and interests respected.
- To ensure that these opportunities are available for all pupils
- To commit to ‘closing the attainment gap’
Concerning the last point, what does attainment look like for us?
For some of our learners, formal assessment and accreditation show attainment and success. For some of our learners, the following are more meaningful manifestations of attainment:
- Developing ways of Communicating
- Finding calmness, stillness, happiness, peacefulness
- Being safe with others and myself
- Making independent choices
- Having my voice honoured
- Having a future plan, work placement, a place to be-long
